A Message from Aimee
JuneJune! The leaves are green, the flowers in bloom, the weather warm. We’ve had an amazing spring (probably the first spring that’s felt like spring in ages!). And now, as summer arrives and pushes heat, humidity and summer sun on us, we’ll be flocking to pools, air conditioning and indoor creature comforts.

June is “Great Outdoor Month” as proclaimed by our current US President in 2007. Take time this month to get outdoor — go to a lake — Jordan Lake for example. Or, a park, the JC Raulston Arboretum is a gorgeous park maintained by my Alma Mater, NCSU!

How about the beach or the mountains?  Did you know that both are just a short drive away? Take advantage of the great outdoors that our home state provides — oh and at the same time … get CLOSE to those you love.

And one more thing … do all these things with dear ole’ Dad as it’s Father’s Day this month!

At your service,
Aimee

Moving Moment

mm
What happens when you take two little girls, give one a toy that requires a bit of concentration and let the other watch? You get a Moving Moment.

Charlotte, concentrating with all her might, exhibited the first signs of being the next female Michael Jordan … complete right down to her tongue.

And little sister of course, was just waiting … patiently … to see the results.

Peak of Fashion Event – June 13th! Free!
MGCApex has become well-known in recent years for being a great place to raise a family.  It’s known far and wide for its slow, Southern pace, welcoming attitude and the quaint Downtown Historic District, but fashion!?!  It may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Apex, but “Honey, things are a’ changing.”

hbs
My Girlfriend’s Closet is known as a place to find a great bargain, and being located right next door Hair, Body & Sole Salon and Spa (where you can get a stylish color or trendy cut), you have a fantastic beginning.  Add to that mix the sassy little women’s boutique, Nativa, where the window changes often, reflecting fun new arrivals, and
btg
Blue Tiger, a sophisticated gift shop where you can find classy jewelry and unique gifts.  Cross the hall and you can grab a latte (soy, skinny, decaf, no whip for me) at Common Grounds Coffee Shop.

So far, we are hitting a home run with all the shopping women I know.  Well wait, it gets even better!  What if all those places teamed up for a real, live runway fashion show, featuring must have items for summer and the latest trends in hair, makeup and nails?

The action happens on Friday, June 13th at 7pm, at Common Grounds Coffee Shop, 219 N Salem St.  Admission is free but it will be standing room only, so wear comfortable shoes.  Have a cup of coffee, a yummy pastry and see what’s hot for summer as we watch Apex become the Peak of Fashion!

Featured Family – The Davis Family
mm1Bill, an Architect with Progressive Design & Planning in Fuquay-Varina and Aimee, the owner of Pure Expressions Photography had an opportunity to appreciate each others’ work last fall. Bill designed the current Pure Expressions Photography studio in Scott’s Mill and Aimee photographed his family.

Mom, Dad, daughters and puppy dog headed to Jordan Lake, late one morning, on a warm autumn day in 2007 for family photographs. While the girls have had professional photographs taken before, this was a first as a family.

mm2Jordan Lake was chosen for several reason. “We wanted an interesting location, and we also wanted to include Augie (their puppy dog!) in the photos.  We wanted a casual and informal location, and Jordan Lake fit perfectly,” said Mom & Dad.

In selecting the location for their family portrait, the Davis’ considered several place. “We thought of a bunch of places, including the Arboretum and the Rose Garden in Raleigh, Duke Gardens, Kelly Road Park and Kids Together Playground,” said Dad. With Jordan Lake just a few miles away from this Apex-based family, making the trip was an easy and convenient choice.

mm3While the selection of location was an easy one, finding the right time and the right day proved to be more challenging. “Our family struggles trying to balance a busy work and home life.  We enjoy spending time with our kids and really try to focus on family bonding time, specially on the weekends.  We try really hard to be good role models for our kids and through this teach them about balance in their own lives,” said Dad. To fit in the photography session, “we chose a day that the kids were out of school, and Kelley wasn’t working. My schedule is pretty flexible, so I conformed to theirs,” added Dad.

mm4If you’ve been to the Pure Expressions Photography studio, you’ll know that Aimee loves her new space. Does the same hold true for the Davis’ photographs? “We really liked the way the photographs turned out. Aimee had a knack for getting us to forget that she was there.  We had a lot of photos taken over the course of the shoot, but we didn’t really feel self-conscious about having her there with the camera.  We were nervous about the kids, and whether they would “ham” it up for the camera.  Aimee was able to get them to be themselves and capture their spirit,” said Dad.

In the end, the family chose digital images as well as wall portraits for their memories. “We wanted to have the freedom to print out additional copies of the photos, even if they were small ones.  We had Christmas cards printed from one of them, and we have printed out several small prints for family and friends,” added Dad.

Bill, Kelley, Addison, Piper and Augie … thanks for being our Featured Family!
