Clear my Shelf! Someday, my “book room” will actually be one … someday. Someday.
Thank you, up front, to “I Am A Reader, Not A Writer” for hosting this awesome hop!
Ever since having kids, I’ve been acquiring stuff. Not just stuff … but LOADS of stuff … GOBS of … STUFF. That includes my massive, growing library of boooooks. Now, when I say library, it’s not one of those awesome places like this:
or like this
Oh no. I don’t have that … yet. Why not? For one, my books are stacked on the floor, 10-20 piles of them, halfway up the wall and in front of them? Everything else in my house that needs to be sold at a yard sale or on Craigslist or eBay.
Yep, my books are hidden in the confines of a room that is slam packed with JUNK.
And it all needs to go.
But rather than tell you I have a double, Dora the Explorer outdoor seat that no longer folds to give away, or a white rocking horse I haven’t been able to sell, or a desk that is in much need of clearing so it can be used … I’m going to focus on the books that are hidden beneath this Mount Everest of junk.
What’s in there?
Honestly? I haven’t the faintest idea. I know I’ve read 90% of them (some of the old ones were gifts and so I’m not sure I read them). I have thrillers, Nora Roberts and JD Robb, romances, literary fiction, historicals, young adult, middle grades. Deep in the pocket of my house that was once the sitting room … lies a pile of books.
Were they not inanimate objects, they’d all probably be cowering together wondering just what I planned to do with them.
And here’s what I’ll tell you.
I have no idea.
I WANT a bookshelf like this:
It’s my dream to clear out that room, build this into one full wall, keep my sofa (that is covered in stuff) and the desk (that is covered in stuff) and the rug (that is covered in stuff) and have my own little library.
For now … I must pay off debt, medical bills and save up, but some day … SOME day, I’ll have my space. All to myself. Cleaned up. Organized. Without a single book I’d want to give away. (Ha, yeah, right). π
For now, I’m going to offer to share my mess with you. I mean … share my books with you. How? The question is in the Rafflecopter!
Don’t forget to comment!
And go visit others!
I’d definitely turn it into a personal library. My room only has so much space and it ran out years ago.
I would probably turn it into a darkroom. I have enough room in my bedroom / closets for all of my books. But a darkroom? Don’t have that yet. π
I’d turn it into a reading area with a chaise/ kitty play land/ craft table.
I’d use all the colors I’m too scared to use in the rest of the house.
I would have wall to wall book shelves and a nice big comfy chair and a computer.
I would love a library with built in bookshelves, bay windows with window seats and a chaise lounge. I would spend all day in this room lounging about, enjoying the sunlight or sitting on the window seat listening to the rain, reading to my hearts content while people deliver food to me outside the door. π I would stay and there and read until my death or the urge to go to the restroom drives me out. π
A bathroom…with a GIANT garden tub with jets in it…with a book shelf next to it and candles all around π Oh and a Keurig machine next to the bath so I can have hot tea made to order while I read and relax in the bath.
I would definetly turn it into my own library too! Most of my books are in my sister’s room because I don’t have a bookself or room for a bookself. I have a little nightstand I put some in π
If you had a room all to yourself, to do whatever you wanted with it … what would you do? I woud put tones and tones of book in it (man that would be like heaven)
If I had my “own” room, I would do floor to ceiling bookshelves and super comfy chairs around a fireplace in half of the room (because if I had my “own” room, it would be BIG) and the other half would be my scrapbooking room. It would have all my supplies organized and a big table to spread out. I would love to have a room like that! Thanks for the giveway!
Well if it was a room other then my bedroom I would make it into a little library.
I’d like an indoor pool. I would float around and read all day long!
Same as you, I would totally make a little personal library. π
I’d definitely turn it into a library. Maybe paint the walls to reflect scenes from my favorite books.
I would turn it into a personal library with a coffin couch. Maybe two couches. Thanks for the giveaway.
I would love to turn it into a library like the one on Beauty and the Beast, but I would paint it bright colors!
Movie room.
i would want a craft room or office
I’d make it into an awesome library and craft room.
I would make it into an entertainment room. In the middle of one wall would be and entertainment center with a TV, game consoles, and a dvd player. There would be a couch, table and rug in the middle of the room. Along the wals there would be bookcases for books, movies, and video games.
Would prob be like a man cave, computers, tv
I love technology π
I’d make it into a book, video game and dvd room with a tv and teather system and couch.
I would turn it into a entertainment room paradise- books, movies, videogames, laptopsβ¦. mmmmm
I would turn it into my dream library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a fireplace on one wall, a desk and chair in the middle of the room but comfy chairs, pillows, and blankets throughout the room. I would want lots of good reading light.
I would make a library and probably find a way to make a secret room. Always wanted to have one.
I have always wanted a library with comfy seating and good reading light, where I can go during nap time. Just a sanctuary for me and the books I use to escape from reality
I would turn it into a library!!
if I had a room all to myself it would have to be comfortable with big over sized chairs. Maybe a fireplace for the winter? Ohhh and bookshelves, internet access, and a coffee maker π

I would have a library for all my books with a huge bay window I could sit in with a gas fireplace
I would have a room full of books since it is what I love always have too many books and don’t know where too put them! Thank you for the great giveaway!
A huge library, like in Beauty and the Beast
Wow, those are nice looking racks… I mean bookshelves π
I feel your pain. I actually have converted a spare room into my writing room. Along one wall I purchased 4 cheap pressboard, horrible, saggy, fake-wood-veneered, kindling waiting to happen. The scary thing? I still have piles of book and junk in front of them.
There is a couch in that room. A ratty old pull-out couch, but it is there… somewhere. I have just enough room to walk in the door and sit at my equally saggy pressboard desk.
Aren’t writer’s lives romantic? We get to sit at horrible old desks, in clautrophobic junk room and try to create, in your case romantic worlds and in my case dark forboding landscapes.
Sigh… at least we dream big. I hope you get your bookshelves.
I would use it to hold books, DVDs and board games π
I would fill it with books, DVDs, and video games. Oh yeah, and an indoor swimming pool!
I would have books in floor to ceiling bookcases, a comfy recliner, a TV, a laptop and some music and of course a little doggie bed for my best friend.

Oh, it would definitely be filled with bookcases from floor to ceiling, all walls
I would make it my computer room.
I would love to make my room all full of book shelves!!!!
Wow! Can I say I’ve NEVER had such amazing participation in a blog hop! It got so overwhelming for me that I couldn’t even respond to the posts, they came in so fast with such awesome and fun answers! I did read them all though and think ALL the ideas (mostly book rooms) would suit ME just fine. LOL So … thank you for participating and congratulations to Mandy S β the winner!
